And it’s clear that the increased availability of quality digital streams thanks to Netflix, YouTube, etc. has had a notable impact, as streaming-only albums (327) and compilations (1,815) are growing faster than ever, in some cases doubling in size over last year’s figures. Which is good news for a smaller crop of artists who have taken to the streaming service as their primary outlet for releasing music.
One emerging artist that stands out is British singer/songwriter ‘Butch Walker’s Queen. With likeable recent releases Sing Songs and The Highland Sessions, the Bandit Queen is his first studio album since 2016’s The Darklands, and is due out September 9.
